Fling

Deals damage and throws held item at the target. The power depends on the item.

Fling deals damage based on the user's held item.
Fling always fails if the user is holding any of these items:

• any TM
• any Apricorn item
• any Gem
• any type of Poké Ball
• any Mail item
• any Z-Crystal
• a Ability Capsule
• a Ability Patch
• a Festival Ticket
• Red Orb or Blue Orb
• Rusted Sword or Rusted Shield
• if the user is a Giratina holding a Griseous Orb
• if the user is an Arceus holding a plate item
• if the user is a Genesect holding a drive item
• if the user is a Silvally holding a memory item
• if the user is a Pokémon capable of Mega Evolving holding the appropriate Mega Stone (such as a Gengar holding Gengarite
• if the user has the ability Quark Drive or Protosynthesis and is holding a Booster Energy
• if the user is an Ogerpon holding one of its masks

After using Fling the item is consumed even if the target was protected by a move such as Protect.

If the user is holding a TR item, Fling has the power of the move stored in the TR. If the stored move has no base power (for example by being a Status move or by having varying power) Fling will have 10 power instead.
If the flung item boosts the power of moves, Fling is also boosted if applicable.
A thrown {Life Orb;ITEM;life-orb} does not reduce the user's HP as the user is no longer holding the item.
Throwing a berry will activate its effect for the target even if the activation requirements are not met.
There are also items that have an additional effect when thrown:

• {Flame Orb;ITEM;flame-orb} will burn the target.
• {King's Rock;ITEM;kings-rock} and {Razor Fang;ITEM;razor-fang} cause the target to flinch
• {Light Ball;ITEM;light-ball} paralyzes the target
• {Mental Herb;ITEM;mental-herb} cure the effects of infatuation, Taunt, Encore, Torment, Disable and Heal Block from the target
  In Gen 4 only {infatuation;STATUS;infatuation} is cured.
• {Poison Barb;ITEM;poison-barb} poisons the target.
• {Toxic Orb;ITEM;toxic-orb} badly poisons the target.
• {White Herb;ITEM;white-herb} removes all negative stat modifiers from the target.

A Pokémon affected by Embargo, Klutz or Magic Room can not use Fling.

• In Gen 4 {Klutz;ABILITY;klutz} does not disable the use of Fling and a Pokémon affected by {Embargo;MOVE;embargo} does not receive the effect of the flung item.
