Detailed Effect

Embargo disables the effects of held items and prevents using an item on the target for 5 turns.
Embargo can not disable the effect of item types that affect the following mechanics:

prize money such as Amulet Coin
experience gain such as Lucky Egg
effort values such as Power Weight
friendship such as Soothe Bell
type of the target Pokémon
Mega Evolution
Z-Moves with Z-Crystals

Embargo prevents the use of Fling and Natural Gift.
If the target is already under the effects of Embargo, Fling will not activate the item thrown at it.
If a Pokémon uses Judgment, Techno Blast or Multi-Attack while affected by Embargo, it will be

Normal -type.

In Gen 4 Embargo is not deflected by Magic Coat and fails if used against a Pokémon with Multitype.
If a Pokémon is affected by Embargo, Pluck will consume the target's berry without gaining its effect.
From Gen 8 onwards this move can not be selected in battle.

COL B2W2	It prevents the target from using its held item. Its Trainer is also prevented from using items on it.
XY ORAS	This move prevents the target from using its held item. Its Trainer is also prevented from using items on it.
SM USUM LGPLGE	This move prevents the target from using its held item for five turns. Its Trainer is also prevented from using items on it.
SWSH	This move can’t be used. It’s recommended that this move is forgotten. Once forgotten, this move can’t be remembered.
