Detailed Effect

Encore prevents the target from using any move besides its last used move for 3 turns.
Encore fails if the last used move was one of: If the move the the target is forced to use runs out of PP or is blocked by move disabling effects such as Gravity or Disable, the target will use Struggle instead.
Encore bypasses Substitute.
Encore has no effect on Dynamaxed Pokémon.
  • In Gen 2 Encore lasts from 2-6 turns.
  • In Gen 3-6 Encore can force the target to use moves that call other moves such as Metronome.
  • In DiamondPearl Encore's effect lasts for 3-7 turns.
  • In Platinum Encore's effect lasts for 2-6 turns.
  • In HeartGoldSoulSilver Encore's effect lasts for 4-8 turns.
