Effect Summary

s for two turns, completely healing itself.

for 2 turns, but user is fully healed.
Rest will fail if any of these conditions is met:

The user is already at full HP
The user has the ability Insomnia or Vital Spriti which prevent sleep
The user has the ability Comatose which imitates the sleep effect.
The move Uproar is in effect. This is not the case in Gen 3-5 if the user has the ability Soundproof.
The user has the ability Leaf Guard during harsh sunlight
The user is grounded while Electric Terrain or Misty Terrain is in effect.
The user is affected by Sweet Veil.
The user is affected by Heal Block.
If the user has no other moves available, it will use Struggle instead.

In Gen 1 the turn that Rest is used counts for the 2 turns that the user is asleep . In all other generations Rest requires a total of 3 turns.
In Gen 2 Rest can be used through Sleep Talk
In Gen 1-8 Rest has 10 PP.
In Legends: Arceus Rest restores 75% HP and makes the user drowsy for 4 turns.

GS C	Sleep for 2 turns to fully recover.
RS E	The user sleeps for 2 turns, restoring HP and status.
FRLG	The user sleeps for two turns to fully restore HP and heal any status problem.
DP HGSS PL COL B2W2	The user goes to sleep for two turns. It fully restores the user’s HP and heals any status problem.
XY ORAS SM USUM LGPLGE SWSH	The user goes to sleep for two turns. This fully restores the user’s HP and heals any status conditions.
