Scatters Spikes, damaging enemy Pokémon that switch in.

Spikes lays a trap around the target which damages Pokémon that switch in.
Trap effects can be removed by moves such as Rapid Spin.
Spikes can be used multiple times in a row to layer the trap and increase the damage the incoming Pokémon takes.
The table below whos the specific amount of damage and number of layers required:

Using Ceaseless Edge also sets up one layer of Spikes around the target. Raised Pokémon take no damage from this effect.
A Pokémon is raised if it meets one of the following conditions:

• It is Flying-type
• It is under the effects of Levitate, Magnet Rise or Telekinesis
• It is holding an Air Balloon

Defog will remove all Spikes.

• In Gen 2 Spikes can not be layered multiple times.
• In Gen 3-4 Spikes are not affected by Magic Coat.
• In Gen 2-5 Defog only removes the Spikes around the target.

  Spikes is categorized as Physical and deals damage with 40 power, then leaving the target with splinters for 4 turns (strong style), 2 turns (agile style) or 3 turns (otherwise).
