Copies the target's ability.

Role Play replaces the user's current ability with the target's ability.
Role Play bypasses accuracy and evasion checks to always hit except when the target is in the semi-invulnerable turn of moves such as Dig or Fly.
Role Play fails if the following applies:

  • Comatose
  • Commander
  • Disguise
  • Flower Gift (Gen 5 onwards)
  • Forecast (Gen 5 onwards)
  • Gulp Missile
  • Ice Face
  • Illusion
  • Imposter
  • Multitype
  • Neutralizing Gas
  • Power Construct
  • Power of Alchemy
  • Protosynthesis
  • Quark Drive
  • Receiver
  • RKS System
  • Schooling
  • Shields Down
  • Stance Change
  • Trace (Gen 5 onwards)
  • Wonder Guard
  • Zen Mode
  • Zero to Hero
• The user's ability is:
  • Battle Bond
  • Comatose
  • Commander
  • Disguise
  • Ice Face
  • Gulp Missile
  • Multitype
  • Power Construct
  • RKS System
  • Schooling
  • Shields Down
  • Stance Change
  • Zen Mode
  • Zero to Hero

If the user is under the effect of Illusion, using Role Play will remove its effect.
If the user is transformed due to Forecast, it will change back before using Role Play.

• In Gen 3-4 Role Play does not fail if the target has the same ability as the user.
