Focus Punch 'focuses' before dealing damage.
Focus Punch has greatly decreased priority meaning it will move after most other moves.
If a direct attack hits the user before the move is used, the user loses focus and will flinch

In Gen 3-4 Focus Punch uses PP even if the user loses focus.
If the user selected a different move but is forced to use Focus Punch by a move-forcing effect such as Encore, the user will use Focus Punch at the priority the originally selected move had.
