Overview

The PokeDB Editor System is a comprehensive content management platform that allows qualified contributors to propose changes to the Pokémon database. All submissions go through a structured review process to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Getting Started

To submit edits on PokeDB, you must have at least the Editor role. This role isn't assigned by default and requires an application process.

Your application will be reviewed by the PokeDB team, and you'll be notified once a decision has been made. For details on all roles and the application process, see Roles and Permissions.

Supported Entity Types

The editor system supports full create, update, and delete operations for the following entity types:

Pokémon

Core species data and forms

Abilities

Pokémon abilities and effects

Damage Categories

Move damage classifications

Natures

Stat-affecting personality traits

Leveling Rates

Experience growth patterns

Creating a Change Request

Once you have Editor access, use the Editor Menu to start making changes. The workflow is straightforward:

  1. Choose the operation type (Create, Update, or Delete)
  2. Select the entity type you want to modify
  3. Fill in the required information or select an existing entry
  4. Provide a clear, concise reason for the change
  5. Review your submission and click "Submit"

Validation and Requirements

All submissions undergo automated validation to check for logical inconsistencies, missing data, and compliance with business rules. This includes:

  • Format and type validation
  • Reference integrity checking
  • Dependency validation for deletions

For complete details on validation rules, see our Validation Requirements documentation.

Review and Approval Process

All submissions are reviewed by Senior Editors to ensure accuracy and consistency. We validate every proposal against our Data Model and Validation Requirements before approval.

Important: PokeDB maintains consistency by allowing only one pending change per entry. If you have a change awaiting review, you cannot submit another for that same entry until the first is resolved.

Changes that remain valid will be approved and merged into the database. However, if subsequent updates elsewhere make your proposal invalid, it will be rejected.

Managing Your Changes

Track all your submitted edits and their current status on the Change Review page. Here you can view:

  • Pending submissions awaiting review
  • Approved changes that have been merged
  • Rejected submissions with explanations
  • Detailed change history and timestamps
